Presentation Title:

Trends and disparities in liver cancer incidence in the United States

Abstract

This study examined liver cancer incidence trends and disparities in the United States from 1999 to 2020. Using population-based registry data, we analyzed incidence rates by demographic factors including age, sex, race, ethnicity, and geographic region. The analysis revealed an overall increase in liver cancer incidence over the study period, with notable disparities among racial and ethnic groups and across geographic areas. Non- Hispanic American Indian/Alaska Native individuals and Non-Hispanic Black individuals experienced higher incidence rates compared with other racial/ethnic groups. Southern and Western states exhibited elevated incidence rates. Age-specific trends showed rising incidence in adults aged 45 and older, while individuals aged 45-54 saw a decline in rates toward the end of the period. The findings highlight the importance of addressing liver cancer disparities in high-risk populations. Geographic variations suggest that environmental or lifestyle factors may contribute to increased incidence in certain regions. Racial and ethnic disparities indicate that targeted interventions should focus on improving access to healthcare and screening services for vulnerable populations. The results have significant implications for public health policy and healthcare strategies aimed at reducing liver cancer incidence in the US. Targeted interventions, such as increased screening and early detection, may help mitigate disparities. Further research is needed to understand underlying factors driving these disparities and develop effective prevention and treatment strategies
