Presentation Title:

The Resilience Paradigm: Empowering Oncology Professionals and Patients Through Presence-Centered Care

Abstract

Statement of the Problem: Cancer treatment presents immense challenges for patients, families, and healthcare professionals. Oncology teams are at high risk for burnout due to intense workloads, emotional strain, and the complexity of care. Meanwhile, patients often struggle with psychological distress, anxiety, and loss of hope. These dual pressures can compromise treatment adherence, therapeutic alliance, and the overall quality of cancer care.

Methodology & Approach: This presentation introduces The Resilience Paradigm™, an insight-based coaching and leadership model developed by Lyn McCright, MPH, APRN, AGNP, AHN-BC, HWNC-BC, and Teresa Walding, BSN, RN, NC-BC. Rooted in holistic nursing and evidence-informed coaching, the model reframes resilience as an innate human capacity. Through presence-centered leadership, reflective practice, and coaching interventions, it empowers both oncology professionals and patients to navigate cancer with clarity, connection, and reduced stress.

Findings: Drawing on workshops delivered for healthcare organizations and associations, participants consistently report stronger emotional regulation, improved team cohesion, and renewed purpose. For patients, resilience strategies promote empowerment, enhance coping with treatment, and improve engagement with survivorship care.

Conclusion & Significance: By integrating resilience-based practices into oncology care, The Resilience Paradigm™ strengthens both provider well-being and patient experience. This dual impact enhances compliance, reduces burnout, and contributes to more effective, compassionate cancer treatment. It advances the conference theme of “Advancing Medicine and Hope” by highlighting resilience as a vital element of cancer care innovation.
