Retrospective study of medication errors and their impact on cancer patient safety

Abstract

Medical errors (EM) are an unintentional flaw in the oncology treatment process, the analysis of EM is necessary, since, in recent years, there has been a great diversity of therapies against cancer, based on a retrospective transversal study in which the Proportion of medical errors outside the data base of the clinical pharmacy service during the period 2015-2020, were classified according to the actualization of Ruiz-Jarabo. For the analysis, descriptive statistics with frequency values, percentages and contingency tables with the squared estimate (χ2) and odds ratio were used. If I obtained a total of 10,542 errors, 7,725 of which were avoided, which highlights the importance of the participation of the pharmaceutical staff involved in the pharmacological therapeutic stage, with the conclusion that the pharmacist ensures the continued improvement of the procedures and the guarantee of the safety of the cancer patient.

Biography

Monica Mejia at 25 years of age realized the publication of the retrospective article on medical errors in the safety of the oncological patient, in 2024 as a participant in the implementation of hospital pharmaceutical services in the State Oncology Center and currently in the Toluca Medical Center, Materno Infantil Hospital and the External Consultation Clinic ISSEMyM. Currently author of the procedure manuals approved by COFEPRIS as well as responsible for Health License Verification.
